Ask an Immigration Solicitor About Your ILR
Tell an immigration solicitor what does not fit the standard rules, and a solicitor who takes ILR cases can reply by email.
Times to Get a Solicitor's Help
People who hold one visa route, earn steady pay, and take short trips usually apply without help. When your dates fail to fit the rules neatly, paying for advice makes sense:
- A single 12-month period in which you spent more than 180 days outside the UK. A solicitor can check whether your absences count. Some do not, including those caused by serious illness or travel disruption.
- A gap between visas matters on the 10-year route, where the requirement is 10 years in the UK legally and with no gaps.
- An application date you are unsure of. You may apply up to 28 days before you qualify; a form sent before that can be refused.
- A refusal. You keep more choices when a solicitor sees the letter early. In the UK, the deadline for asking for an administrative review is 14 days.
Papers to Keep Handy
- Your visa start date, shown on the grant letter or your eVisa.
- Gather your visa letters, any refusal letter, and, if a salary rule applies, your recent payslips.
- The dates you left and came back, shown in your travel record or passport stamps. The trips calculator will show which 12-month period had the most travel.
Once the Form Is Sent
An immigration solicitor receives your question and may write back by email, or ring you if you left a number. It costs nothing to send the form, and you are not tied to anything by sending it.
